SPORTING first winner for sire PROTECTIONIST

Easy by two and a quarter lengths is the first call the stewards ever had to make for a winner by PROTECTIONIST. It happened in the first race oon the card at Cologne today where the Hans-Jürgen Gröschel-trained SPORTING broke his maiden over 1600 metres in his second career outing. The two-year-old colt showed plenty of heart in the final straight under Adrie de Vries and made an overall excellent impression. SPORTING carries the colours of the German based stud Gestüt Paschberg where the colt was bred out of the Big Shuffle mare Salonshuffle whose first product is the Listed winning SERENA.
